Incentives don’t work for creative problems. Again, and again, and again, science has shown that the answers to creative, multi-solution problems, like design, cannot be bought. Love, however, works. It’s passion, that intrinsic motivator that works best. Check two TED segments: the first by Stefan Sagmeister discusses the importance of stepping out of routine while the second  segment, by Dan Pink, discusses why financial motivation backfires for design problems.
